Here we provide a more detailed introduction to the VSM - a model of how social systems (eg, any work place) survive in the longer term when they are truly viable. First proposed by Stafford Beer, the VSM, in particular its recursive structure, gives insights into the management of complexity that exists in all organisations. Today the VSM is widely used as a heuristic to manage complexity by people in organisations.
